On Friday, Acting Under Secretary James Bergeron issued a letter reassuring the education community that the recent reduction in force (RIF) does not include employees working on core functions of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) or student loan servicing.
The letter also recognized that certain regional offices that handled matters impacting higher education institutions (such as program reviews, ownership changes, and program participation agreements) were affected by the RIF. Bergeron assured the sector that these functions would be transferred to other offices and staff.
The Department will be providing additional information and guidance. AACS will continue to keep members updated in regard to RIF and other federal matters that may impact your schools.
