Bipartisan Letter Requesting Delay in FVT/GE Reporting
What You Need to Know
Yesterday, a bipartisan group of 20 Senators sent a letter to the Department “request[ing] that the Department delay the institutional reporting deadline for the new Gainful Employment (GE) and Financial Value Transparency (FVT) regulations to July 2025.” The Senators reference the challenges associated with the 2024-25 FAFSA rollout and the need for institutions to devote additional time towards the 2025-26 FAFSA process as reasons for the request to delay FVT/GE reporting requirements.
The letter concludes that the Department should not rush financial aid administrators to meet the October 1, 2024 reporting delay, and instead should allow institutions to focus on expending time and resources on supporting students. This letter comes after the Department’s announcement on August 30, 2024 that that it has temporarily suspended reviewing NSLDS FVT/GE Completers Lists.
Why This is Important
Congressional Members, interest groups and individuals in the higher education sector have continued to push the Department for clarity on the October 1, 2024 deadline. To this point, the Department has not specified that it will delay the deadline. We will continue to monitor the Department’s announcements for any developments, and note that AACS’ case on GE remains on track for summary judgment briefing to be completed this fall.
